Reformation Day Outreach

Our waitress Julia had a tattoo of two hands intertwining on her inner arm, so I asked her about it. Tattoos are great springboards to conversation. Her sister lives in Winnipeg and she hasn’t seen her for many years, but they got matching tattoos to feel close to each other when they were apart. I gave her a Halloween-themed Gospel tract from Living Waters and asked her faith background and she said she was raised in a mix of Catholic and Christian people.

When Julia came back to our table after she was off reading the tract, she asked who the man was on the front of the bill. I didn’t know, but later found out it was an American President. I shared the moral law and Gospel of grace with her. We even shared a solid local church she could attend and she was also given the Living Waters YouTube card. Please pray for Julia, God is definitely drawing her closer to Him.

Many Christians shy away from Halloween and I was one of them. Do I shut off all the lights? Hand out candy and pray for the kids? Go to a harvest party at a church? What do we do when the world brings pagan things close? We use then as springboards to the Gospel just as Paul did on Mars Hill. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. He owns it, not any pagan festivities. My family and I went out shining the light of the Gospel to our community handing out Halloween-themed Gospel tracts and Ten Commandment coins from Living Waters. When one lady found out it was a Gospel tract she gave me a hug and said it was a great idea! That was a pleasant surprise! I gave Ten Commandment coins to a guy dressed as Super Mario driving a go-kart. We also threw a bunch of Ten Commandment coins around some teenagers and a guy dressed as a Pickle picked one up, read it and kept it. Teens at public school that never get told the Gospel read about the Ten Commandments and the Gospel tonight. Families that never consider the after life did tonight. Praise God!
